Powder Metallurgy

The main advantage of PM HIP versus traditional PM press + sintering technologies is that the initially loose powder in a HIP capsule is subjected during the HIP cycle to the combined action of pressure and temperature staying all the time in solid state and reaches under the consecutive action of plastic deformation, creep and diffusion the theoretically full density.

This means virtually no voids throughout the material, resulting in a uniform, fine grain micro-structure

Here are the micro-graphs demonstrating the evolution during the HIP cycle of the initial powder metal to our fully consolidated material. This is relevant for the variety of powder materials from Al alloys to Ti, steels, Ni base and refractory alloys.
